What Comes Next?: Beyond the Uncommitted Vote
Beyond the Uncommitted Vote
What Comes Next?
03/28/2024
Super Tuesday and primaries across the country showed a remarkable shift in how Americans vote, beyond electing officials. The Uncommitted Vote movement hit the country like a fierce wave, urging voters from Minnesota to Washington to send Genocide Joe a clear message: End the Genocide in Palestine, NOW!
According to The Guardian, the votes broke down as follows:
Michigan: 101,623 votes for uncommitted, about 13% of total votes
Minnesota: 45,914 votes for uncommitted, nearly 19% of total votes
Hawaii: 455 votes for uncommitted, about 29% of total votes
Washington: 89,753 votes for uncommitted delegates, nearly 10% of the total vote

In Illinois, reports show that over 100,000 voters did not vote for Biden. Many wrote in “Gaza” and refused to vote for Democratic delegates, all of whom were for Biden. Unlike other states like Michigan, there will be no Uncommitted delegates from Illinois.
In fact, activists face challenges with the mayor and the city blocking a march to the Democratic National Convention by first refusing permits and, later, sending the march far from the DNC. But, for the delegates that are Uncommitted, they have a tremendous opportunity to address their discontent with the Biden administration’s handling of Gaza: Partial sanctions and a temporary ceasefire are not enough when over thirty thousand people have been massacred, most of them women and children. It is not enough that political candidates do not speak out when children are starving.
So, what next?
Activists are ramping up, despite city opposition to march at the DNC. We must put pressure on Democrats both within and outside the convention, so they meet these and other demands. Should activists protest the RNC? Of course! Whatever role we play, we must be unified with one purpose.
The genocide of Palestinians must end!
Let’s talk.
