Abolition is a way to solve the problems of police violence, poverty, systemic racism, health crises and ecological devastation. In this virtual discussion hosted by the League of Revolutionaries for a New America (LRNA) on July 17, 2021, abolitionist leader Dr. Ruth Wilson Gilmore shares knowledge and inspiration about the challenges facing us and the way forward.
Police have killed over 1068 people in the U.S. since they murdered George Floyd in Minneapolis last summer. They are a force of State terror in our communities, paid for by our public dollars! They should be abolished and new life affirming resources put in their place. Scholar-activist Ruthie Gilmore says abolition is about eliminating the conditions that led to prisons. It is about creating a new world. Together, we can do that. Gilmore’s forthcoming book is “Change Everything: Racial Capitalism and the Case for Abolition.” We are excited for its release! We must build the movement for Abolition to stop mass incarceration and recreate our society. Abolition is revolutionary.
