Oakland Unified School District Security Police Attack Parents

Oakland Unified School District Security Police Attack Parents, Teachers, and Community

Last year, the Oakland School Board majority voted to close 6 schools. Parker, a century-old elementary school, was the first. Parents and the community occupied the school on the last day and still remain there at this writing, making this the longest school occupation in the country’s history. OUSD has closed 20 schools since it was taken over by the State in 2003. The district’s own research shows that closing schools does not save money. It does however open the door for more charters and school privatization.
On August 7, a private security force hired by OUSD occupied the school. Parents and community members forced their way inside and were met with physical assault. One school board candidate was thrown to the floor, handcuffed, and then hidden from the police in a school room! The video shows this battle and then features community members describing the whole history of the occupation.

The Oakland Public Ed Committee (OPEC)  recommends other revolutionaries watch this,  inasmuch as it shows revolutionaries from the community in action and very well-spoken revolutionaries at that.
