We welcome your participation in and contribution to an ongoing conversation on China and its efforts at constructing socialism with Chinese characteristics. As the most populous country on the globe and the world’s second-largest and fastest-growing economy, China commands the attention of all concerned with the future of humanity and the planet.

In a very brief period, China has made advances of world-historic significance. It has eliminated poverty, something no country in the world has ever done. It has elevated 450 million of its citizens to middle-class status. The success it has achieved in protecting its population from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic is unparalleled. We hope to provide some insight into how China was able to accomplish such remarkable achievements in the enhancement of the quality of life of its people.

However, all is not rosy. The U.S. ruling class views China as the sole threat to their position as world hegemon and are determined to halt its rise. Its main weapon in this campaign is to keep the American people in a benighted state through a campaign of disinformation and xenophobic hate speech.

We must strive to wrest our class from the stranglehold of the corporate-controlled media. As revolutionaries, as propagandists, we are duty-bound to educate our class on international as well as domestic affairs. Our strength (or, our main weapon) is the collective wisdom we acquire through revolutionary practice and study, and exchange.

We claim no expertise or erudition, far from it. All we want to do is to learn from China and motivate and inspire others to embark on such a journey. We believe that what we learn collectively will be of inestimable value to our struggle here in the belly of the beast. The floor is open.

We provide below some questions and discussion points to stimulate dialogue. Also below is a list of suggested readings and links to sources providing periodically updated information.

DISCUSSION POINTS AND QUESTIONS

Is China on the road of socialist construction or capitalist restoration?

How serious is the threat of war between the U.S. and China?

Does the Belt in Road Initiative represent China’s quest for world hegemony?
