Defeat Fascism:

Defend Immigrant Workers

Police Raids in San Antonio, Texas. On August 20 armed police attacked the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) raiding the homes of multiple members. Texas Attorney General Tom Paxton instigated the attacks accusing immigrants and their supporters of falsifying voter registration documents.1 The raids were not an isolated event, they are part of the continuing attack on immigrant rights. It is also tied to a nationwide strategy to disenfranchise American citizens likely to vote.

Paxton/Trump following the Fascist Playbook, Project 2025. Fascism is fueled by blame and hatred toward groups of people who function as scapegoats. For Hitler and Mussolini, this was especially the Jewish people. Trump, through Project 2025 and the Republican Party, is focusing mass hatred, especially on immigrant workers, including those attempting to enter through the U.S./Mexico border.

US Concentration Camps. Project 2025 not only proposes to attack the 11 million undocumented immigrants, it takes aim at all immigrant workers and their US-born children. The government will use mass deportations, concentration camps, brutality, and mass-scale denial of human rights.2 The ruling class is extending the policy of deportation even to demonstrators!

The Democratic Party and Immigration. In her CNN interview, Kamala Harris stated, “We have laws that have to be followed and enforced that address and deal with people who cross our border illegally, and there should be consequences.”3  The law that Harris wants to implement is a Republican/Democrat bill to strengthen law enforcement, increase the number of border patrol agents, and even has money for the construction of the border wall.4 Just as she ignored the Palestinian people, Harris ignored the fascist assault on immigrants.

United We Stand, Divided We Fall. Immigrants are not the only targets. Project 2025 also attacks the rights of LGBTQ+ people, women seeking abortions, and persons of non-Christian faith. We are all in this together. Those of us who depend on work to survive, the working-class, those of us who have been displaced from even being able to work, (see below) have no interest separate from immigrants, including those fleeing violence and government corruption in Central America. When the U.S. government attacks immigrant workers, it is an injury to all workers. Defeating fascism depends upon working-class defense of immigrants. Working-class unity is a matter of life and death.

We cannot depend upon the Democratic or Republican Parties. Our future depends on Working-Class Unity. Compelling this unity in practice is why participating in the elections is so important!

“We have never been here before. Workers being displaced by the market are becoming a revolutionary class because we have no stake in the system and cannot survive without confronting it. We need food, housing, education, and healthcare. We need an opportunity to contribute to society and to help save the planet. We need freedom from police terror, mass incarceration, and gender oppression. We fight for a government that takes care of people first. Ultimately this requires public ownership of the means to create wealth – the land, infrastructure, and technology – and distribution according to need. The fight for basic needs propels every other social struggle because none of society’s social, moral, or ecological problems can be solved as long as the private property system exists.”League Program:  https://lrna.org/program
