Trump Announces Fascist Intent at Political Rally
Between the election and the Presidential inauguration on January 20, working people in the US, whether employed or not, will have to continue to fight for the political power we need to secure our basic human needs. From the polls to the streets we will have to secure the election.
This is not a fight to fix the system and return to a kinder, gentler capitalism. The US is in a fight for a future without billionaires, without fascism, and where everyone’s human needs are guaranteed.
If there is really “an enemy within”1, it is billionaires and millionaires dedicated to establishing the naked rule of corporate power – fascism. It is not BIPOC people, immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, nor our history as a country. Corporate dictatorship has destroyed our natural ecology, poisoned our water, profits from war and controls the government.
On October 27, the Trump campaign held a rally in New York City that began with a speaker hurling racist taunts at women, Puerto Ricans, Jews, Blacks and Hispanics. Trump also signaled to his fascist followers to get ready to seize power after the November 5 Presidential election. 2
Many Americans are stunned that the Republican Party has nominated and supports an openly fascist Presidential candidate. In the past capitalists have turned to fascism when capitalism goes into crisis, for example during the turmoil following the American Civil War the racist and fascist Jim Crow system was put in place. Fascism is a political solution for a capitalist system that cannot address our most basic human needs and can take many forms: genocide, evictions from housing owned by corporations, mass incarceration, criminalization of the homeless, criminalizing women and denying abortions, victimizing immigrants, and deliberate destruction of healthcare, schools, and the environment.
The US is in a fight for a future without billionaires, without fascism, and where everyone’s human needs are guaranteed. We face grave dangers, even if Harris is elected and installed as President. A significant component of the capitalist class has been won over to fascism, and this allegiance will persist beyond the November election.3 Between the election and the Presidential inauguration on January 20, working people in the US, whether employed or not, will have to continue to fight for the political power we need to secure our basic human needs.
The League is part of that fight. Let’s talk.
“As people struggle to survive war, climate catastrophe, poverty, and pandemic, a new fascist state form is arising to crush us – the naked rule of corporate power. It uses the historic American weapon of white supremacy to attack communities of color, divide the working class, and rob the American people of our vote and the limited legal rights we have left. White supremacy is the legacy of the settler colonialism, slavery, land theft, and genocide of indigenous peoples that America was founded on. Fascism resorts to violence to control the working class, even controlling our intimate relationships and our personal identities. Society must replace corporations and financial institutions with publicly owned entities, or else they will continue to fasten their fascist grip over every aspect of our lives.”4
