The “Uncommitted” Vote in Illinois Primary

March 19th., Democrats in Chicago and the State of Illinois will be deciding who their presidential candidate will be. Many wish to take a principled stance and not vote for Genocide Joe. Although Illinois does not have the option to be “Uncommitted,” as other states, Palestinian supporters are asking voters to write in “Gaza” or vote for no one for Democratic president.

Unlike Michigan and Minnesota, the write-in would not be recorded or recognized. However, not voting for President Biden would send a message of opposition.

Will this growing movement compel Biden to call for a total ceasefire or stop funding the state-sanctioned terrorism by Israel? Probably not. Although Biden called for a temporary ceasefire before Ramadan, this half-measure has infuriated Palestinian and Muslim voters and peace activists who want an end to the genocide that has claimed over 30,000 lives, many of them women and children.

What this outrage indicates is an urgent need for a third party and actual political power. People want politicians to fight for their class interests, meet the basic needs of people, and stop the systematic destruction of Palestinians.

This election, use your voting power to send a clear message, not just to President Biden but to every politician who does not support Gaza. Skip over the Democratic choice and leave it blank.

Let’s talk.
