Banning TikTok?  

Silencing the Voice of the New Generations

 Don’t be fooled by legislation to ban TikTok. The larger goal is to digitally squelch the new voices of new generations who are fed up with the miserable life that capitalism offers us. People younger than 50 are now the largest block of registered voters.

Young people have always been the most powerful force for social progress. TikTok is one of the main ways we have to network together for everything that fascism wants to attack: African American History, real diversity, inclusion, and equity for BIPOC people, LGBTQ+ people, and every marginalized community. They are also the main forces in the fight to end the genocidal war in Gaza.

That’s why the government is going after TikTok.

Everybody knows that virtually everything we do is turned into data. This data about our lives is harvested by corporations, governments, and the police – everyone but ourselves! Corporations buy it and sell it for their own exclusive benefit. This is the commodification of our personal information for private corporate profit! 

It is well documented that companies like Facebook, and Google seize and abuse information in ways that create public harm. But the government singles out TikTok without any evidence of nefarious activity. It blames China but takes away our democratic rights to communicate.

We all need political power over what is collected, by whom, for what purposes, how it is bought and sold, and who benefits. We can only win this through the public taking over digital platforms and indeed, every form of technology, so it can be used for the good of us all.

We see, in this election year, how the people of Palestine and Gaza, in fact, how people all over the world, are using social media to fight the horrors we will all face. The ruling class understands that this power is now in the hands of everyone opposed to War and Genocide. That’s why they want to ban TikTok in these fateful times!
