Shooting in Vermont, the War Comes Home

Israel’s war on the Palestinian people has spilled over into open warfare in the US. On Saturday, 3 Palestinian American students were shot in Burlington, Vermont. The gunman shot them without provocation and without saying a word.

The shooting is the latest assault in a growing war against Palestinian/Arab/Muslim people.

• The stabbing of a 6-year-old boy in Chicago
• The police attack on pro-Palestinian supporters on the steps of the Democratic National Party Headquarters
• The censure of Rep. Rashid Tlaib by the US House of Representatives
• The firing of tech workers and writers
• The defunding of NGOs for supporting peace and justice in Gaza.

But we need to be clear, both sides of the issue Palestinian/Arab/Muslim and Jewish are under attack not just by the other side but by fascist elements. We are witnessing growing antisemitism and Islamophobia fueled by the US government, the corporate media, and both major political parties.

Pitting poor and working people against each other is an old trick used to weaken the struggle for peace, justice, and equality. Promoting Islamophobia and antisemitism is no different than using skin color, national origin, immigration status, religion, sexual orientation, …..

Our country and the world stand at a crossroads. Humanity has the potential for economic security and abundance. A community of the people, by the people, and for the people, where children can grow in peace, is possible as never before.
