Fascist Gangs and Police Attack Student Protests

Assault on Students:

Early Thursday morning May 2, LA police and state troopers swarmed onto the UCLA campus destroying the pro-Palestinian demonstrators’ camp and arresting over 200 people. This was part of a nationwide assault on over 40 campuses resulting in over 2,000 arrests. The numbers keep growing as the protests continue.

The Fascist Game Plan

Step 1: Fascist thugs Attack the pro-Palestinian Students and the Police do nothing

On Tuesday, April 30, a gang of fascist thugs armed with sticks, firecrackers, and other weapons attacked the UCLA encampment. The police turned their backs for 2 hours, permitting the violence against unarmed students.*

Step 2: Blame the Violence on the Students and Outside Agitators

Government and university officials blamed the violence on the students demonstrating for peace and justice and on “outside agitators”. They ordered the encampment destroyed. The same claims are being made all over the country.

Step 3: The Police finished what the Fascist Gangs began

The police using stun grenades, tear gas, batons, and Firing Lethal Rubber Bullets*** destroyed the tents and arrested the demonstrators.

This game plan or a version of it is the standard way to attack free speech.

We saw this at the George Floyd, Cop City and many Environmental demonstrations, at Columbia, University of Texas, Emory, …..

Biden Reveals the Plan **

Opposing Genocide & pro-Palestinian is Criminalized:

On May 2, Biden spoke about the pro-Palestinian demonstrations. “Violent protest is not protected. Peaceful protest is. … Destroying property is not a peaceful protest. It’s against the law. Vandalism, breaking windows, shutting down campuses, forcing the cancellation of classes and graduations. None of this is a peaceful protest.” Biden also said that the protests do not change his position and policies toward the war between Israel and Hamas.

To the US government, the US/Israeli genocide in Gaza is LEGAL; attacking private property, the basis of the immoral system it serves is ILLEGAL. Opposing genocide is criminalized while supporting genocide is government’s business.

This is what political power looks like today. The question facing us all is how to win the political power we need to guarantee our basic needs as human beings. The reality is that we confront the naked rule of corporate dictatorship. This power is based in the legalities that require the private ownership of the tools and technology that we all need.

How can we fight and win?

In the practical struggle, people are uniting from below. The growing equality of misery is forming them into a social force. We rely on this developing practical unity to build conscious political understanding. Victory cannot be won until we gain the political power necessary to defeat fascism and organize the cooperative society we need.

Class Struggle:

Human beings have proven that they can survive the barbarism of slavery, famine, and world wars, and build a better world out of destruction. History has given the present generation a great mission: to save the world for the future of life on earth.

The battle is a class struggle because the ruling class is the enemy of humanity and the earth itself. (Program of the League – https://lrna.org/program-m/)

The 2020 rebellions showed that today, whether through words or deeds, masses of socially conscious people are declaring themselves revolutionaries in opposition to the system’s poverty, racism, and ecological disaster. The League’s mission is to unite with other revolutionaries around the demands of the working class, especially the class of displaced workers, and show how the solution is a cooperative, communist society, where social wealth is owned in common and distributed according to need. “As people struggle to survive war, climate catastrophe, poverty, and pandemic, a new fascist state form is arising to crush us – the naked rule of corporate power.” ..” The battle is a class struggle because the ruling class is the enemy of humanity and the earth itself.”  from the League Program

The Voices of the League series of articles are intended to encourage a dialogue with developing revolutionaries.  We highlight issues of the day and areas of special interest to new revolutionaries to provide an action guide.  Please make your thoughts known by commenting at the end of the article.
