The Ruling Class Claims to be Pro-Life . . .

While America Becomes the Land of Assault Weapons, Tainted Formula, and Rampant COVID

On May 2 a draft supreme court ruling was leaked, revealing the court’s intention to overturn Roe v. Wade and to remove our federally protected right to abort a pregnancy. The public responded with indignation and anger at this undemocratic decision, which will not eliminate abortions but will make them illegal, dangerous, expensive, and exploitative in many states. The ruling is also seen as a threat by the conservative judges to overturn other personal rights people have won over the past half century, including our right to privacy and LGBTQ rights to have intimate relationships. The politicians who have failed to protect our bodily autonomy act like they are concerned about ending “innocent life.” Then why won’t they ban assault rifles? These are the same politicians who will rapidly give an additional $40 billion to weapons manufacturers while failing to find $10 billion for COVID relief. Whose lives do these war mongers cherish? Are these politicians supporting free day care and paid parental leave and making sure all families have a home with food on the table or does their care for babies end once they are born?

The court’s true motives are illuminated by the history of state control over reproductive rights in the US: the forced reproduction and rape of enslaved people, forced steriliization, eugenics, and the population control agenda of the Rockefeller wing of the ruling class, seeking to eliminate or reduce “criminal and welfare dependent” populations (a racist dog whistle for people of color and the poor). State suppression of our reproductive autonomy has always been on the agenda of a fascist section of the US ruling class. They use hetero-patriarchal and racist violence to control the demographics and personal lives of the working class, to keep us exploitable and conformative to corporate profit.

But now the feds are really playing with fire. The feminist wave of the 21st century will not accept this attack on our personal liberties, an attack on our diverse working class. We demand reproductive rights to choose our family and also to the social and economic support our families need to thrive. It is not just another wave of feminism which is fighting back. The social movement for gender and sexual freedom is being led by working class youth in every nation. Our insistence on our reproductive rights, on queer liberation, on our pronouns, are beautiful affirmations of our inherent and unconditional human worth. We are not only opposing a single court decision. We are antagonistic to the whole damn system of patriarchy, sexual and reproductive abuse, unemployment, maleducation, imprisonment, caging of children, public massacres, police murder, homelessness, opioids, epidemics, medical profiteering, capitalism, war, neglect, and climate catastrophe, the system which is antagonistic to our existence. We demand a world which truly values our lives and we aren’t waiting for honorable justice Alito’s permission to create it.

You become a critical part of this worldwide opposition to fascist social order when you engage with the movements now organizing around you – in your local communities, for your family’s well being, for rights and wages in the workplace, for progressive candidates in the electoral arena,  in social movements against white supremacy and against gender and sexual oppression, and in political organizations, including the League, which are building and rebuilding the democratic traditions we need.
